Juneteenth — known as Emancipation Day, Freedom Day, or Jubilee Day commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to inform the last enslaved Black Americans of their freedom—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.
It’s a day of remembrance and resilience—honoring the strength of Black communities, celebrating Black liberation, culture, and unapologetic joy, while acknowledging the ongoing fight for justice and equity.
However you choose to honor Juneteenth—whether through rest, reflection, gathering, or giving back—know that each action counts. Consider supporting Black-owned businesses, amplifying Black voices, and continuing to show up for justice, not just today, but every day.
